The passion Tony has for aviation date from early childhood when he remembers his father making small models of planes from plastic. He won’t forget one of the most interesting toys he received from his aunt from India that is a small Mesher Smith airplane. All these important family memories are moments that paved his road towards a dream – a dream that is now reality – one day to have a factory for constructing planes.
Of course nothing happened by coincidence and sometimes our destiny leads us with small steps towards the final goal. Many years before he constructed his first plane in a car garage Tony began making consultations with specialist of aviation and rethinking his ideas. Everything started when he finished the technical university in major “Machine engineer constructor of transport technique”. After that he worked as a cargo manager and he specialized in cargo handling of dangerous materials. Later he reached a position Commercial Director at Hemus Air where he spent the next 5 years. He decided to leave the company when it was taken over by Bulgaria Air. Many considered his decision unreasonable since he abandoned comfortable leading position but for Tony that was the perfect timing to stop postponing and start following his dreams.
During his work at Hemus Air he constructed in a small garage together with his 2 friends the first protype of DAR – DAR 11. The problem was that the perfect trio was destroyed later in year 1998. With his own efforts a year after the first flight of DAR 21 become reality. In 2000 the plane won the “product of the year” prize.
In the beginning Tony started with virtual development of his idea of a small plane – done by hand not even drawn on a computer. Slowly he started making drawings and a lot of consultations with specialist of aerodynamics. Many times his project was stopped.
Through the years, the company has seen ups and downs, economic booms and crises. Nevertheless, he’s managed to stay afloat. Moreover, Aeroplanes DAR had even succeeded to realize new models and penetrate new markets. The future as we see it belongs to the brave and bright. Tony’s vision for aviation is simple –developing small multipurpose planes for reaching new skies and customers.
